Rules & Regulations

Please read carefully before participating.

1. General Guidelines

  • HackSpire'26 is a 26-hour in-person hackathon organized by FIEM ACM Student Chapter, held at FIEM, Kolkata.
  • Participation is free of cost and includes food, swag, Wi-Fi, and access to mentors.
  • This is a student-only hackathon. All participants must be undergraduate or postgraduate students.
  • All participants must carry a valid student ID card and government-issued ID proof on the day of the event.

2. Team Composition

  • Teams must have 2 to 4 members.
  • It is not a mandatory rule to have a female candidate in the group.

3. Project & Development Rules

  • All code must be written during the 26-hour hackathon window. Pre-written code will lead to disqualification.
  • However, publicly available libraries, APIs, and frameworks may be used (must be declared during submission).
  • Projects can be based on provided tracks/themes or any relevant open innovation topic.
  • AI-generated assets (code, design, content) are allowed, but disclosure is mandatory.

4. Prohibited Actions

  • Plagiarism or using pre-existing full projects is strictly prohibited.
  • Disruptive or disrespectful behavior towards judges, mentors, organizers, or other participants will lead to disqualification.
  • Sharing Wi-Fi passwords, tampering with electrical setups, or violating venue rules is not allowed.
  • Teams found to be violating the Code of Conduct may be removed from the event at any time.

5. Submissions

All submissions must be done before the hack timer ends. Each team must submit:

  • Project code (GitHub or similar repo)
  • A short project description & tech stack
  • A 2-minute video demo or live walkthrough

6. Judging Criteria

Projects will be evaluated based on:

  • Innovation & Originality
  • Technical Implementation
  • Design & User Experience
  • Real-World Impact
  • Presentation & Communication
  • Bonus: Alignment with theme or local culture

7. Code of Conduct

HackSpire follows a zero-tolerance policy toward harassment and discrimination of any kind. All participants must:

  • Respect others regardless of gender, identity, race, religion, or skill level
  • Use inclusive and welcoming language
  • Foster a collaborative and friendly environment

8. On-Site Help

  • Our mentors and volunteers will be available 24x7 to support you.
  • For any issues (technical, health, or personal), contact the helpdesk or any organizer.

9. Awards & Recognition

  • Prizes will be awarded for the Top 3 Projects, plus special category awards.
  • All participants will receive certificates, and eligible ones will receive goodies/swag.
  • Winning teams may also receive internship opportunities, incubation support, or community shoutouts.
